Socks with Sandals

Dear Donna,

Since you are the epitome of style, I come to you with a fashion
question. Is it vile to wear socks with sandals? and if so, how do you stop your toes from turning blue on cold nights?
I hope you are enjoying the summer as much as I am.

Lysithea

Dear Lysithea,

It’s true, I am greatly respected for my sense of style. And of course I would not be seen dead – or even half-comatose – wearing socks with sandals. Permit me to give you a little fashion history …

The wearing of sandals goes back to Biblical times, when the dress code for sandals was fixed once and for all. Role models such as Moses and Jesus Christ were well known for their fashionable leather sandals. I mean, have you ever seen a painting of Moses coming down from Mt Sinai wearing SOCKS with his sandals? Can you even picture Jesus Christ clad in sandals and ankle length socks? What would His disciples have said?

Perhaps your toes may turn blue on cold nights – but remember The Passion of the Christ! When the blood was pouring down His back, when half His bones were broken and His teeth hanging out, would He have been such a wuss as to stop on the way to Golgotha to change into a pair of woolly socks? Follow His example, grit your gums and stay true to your fashion sense!

Donna

PS. I suspected it was summer when I noticed a stronger glow of light filtering through the red curtains of my boudoir. I shall certainly try to enjoy it. I’m already putting on a nice warm shade of colour when I stand beside my curtains.
