We know that Basil
Smorta's manuscript is not a forgery because we have seen it with our own eyes! And
more than that - we preserve and guard it!
Yes, when Martin said farewell to his
faithful followers in the lounge of Rydges Hotel, he also
entrusted his translation of Mr Smorta's manuscript to us.
We swore then to protect it with our lives, and have done
so ever since. At the end of every month, we pass it from
one to another-and each of us finds a new place to hide it,
known only to him or herself. The agents of vile don't know
who to tail or where to start looking!
 How
did our leader acquire the manuscript? He explains in his
Preface how his experiences at Morbing Vyle made him determined
to unearth the facts about the evil vicar. Anyone who has
read The Vicar of Morbing Vyle
will understand his obsession. The experiences described in
that earlier book would unhinge any human mind-but not Martin's.
Unfortunately, his Preface to The Black Crusade has
been deliberately mangled by the publisher in order to undermine
and even mock the authenticity of his research.
However, there is other evidence, undeniable
evidence. We have already brought to light many original
documents relevant to the episodes of The Black Crusade.
For example, we can demonstrate that the Terminalist
political movement really did exist and we have even obtained
a copy of a letter to Bram Stoker from the Falkenheim
love-vampires! We present the fruit of our labours on

This is only the beginning. We have heard
rumours of journals kept by Russian soldiers who served in
the Pripet Marshes, of patents lodged by Ingel Brankel for
his earlier inventions, of a musical composition by the Marquis
