EVIDENCE:
for the songs of Volusia |
Basil Smorta quotes several fragments
of the strange and distinctive songs that Volusia sings in
Buda-Pesth and Orblast. The following song was discovered
on the back of a paper table napkin bearing the imprint Rübezahl.
According to Raveena Fike in The Black Crusade, it was at
the Rübezahl Nightclub in Munich that Helmut fell in
love with Volusia. Whether the words were jotted down by Helmut
or some other admirer, someone at least must have thought
them worthy of preservation. The napkin turned up recently
in Melbourne, Australia, but we have been unable to trace
the route by which it arrived there.

SONG
Tonight I will sing the oldest song
Of green eyelids, green road, green river, green stars,
Of fevered beasts with jewels in their skulls,
Of broken strings and peculiar sad shells
Curled up on the shores of sleep.
Tonight I will tell the oldest tale,
We live a little, then we die a lot.
I longed, I do not know, I am uncertain,
For the water of your limbs,
For coffins without raincoats,
For the distant cry of a hunting horn.
If one song has been preserved, there may be
others. Vilewatchers, keep watching!
