FOR THE HISTORICAL REALITY
OF
THE BLACK CRUSADE
Already, we have a growing collection
of documentary evidence to confirm the facts of The Black
Crusade. Clearly, the supposed author, Richard Harland, would
have been incapable of gathering such historical data, of
which even professional historians are unaware. The journey
of the Black Crusaders from England to Morbol Villica really
did take place, including that part of the route travelled
by Basil Smorta in their company.
The above map shows the part of the Crusaders'
route travelled by Basil Smorta in the Mobilator, from Buda-Pesth
(now Budapest) to Morbol Villica.
Almost all the place-names to which Basil
refers can be verified from historical atlases. The only exceptions
are Falkenheim, Orblast and Morbol Villica itself. In the
case of Morbol Villica, it may be assumed that the township
was erased from the cartographical record as it was erased
from human memory. The Domain of Falkenheim does not appear
as such on any map, but the Veretski Pass does. Orblast is
the most puzzling exception, since it corresponds closely
to the city of Lemberg. Perhaps Basil Smorta disguised the
name for reasons best known to himself.
